| as of this very second I am 12524 days old and hoping to make it at least 12410 more days
I live in conway N.C. and am currently selling my computer and car shops to move to ohio to practice law in a small legal firm. Once my move is complete I will be satying in Ohio to make some money as a lawyer (Just Finishing law school taking night courses) and from there I will be retiring in about 10 years to make my own inventions and add to my odd armor and blade collection as well as building a new set of modern ballistic armor hoping to sell to the military and police forces world wide.

| Well here is the thing about showing pics of ballistic armor I can give you some clues to what I am building but until I have patents and contracts I'm not likely to show it off to quick. Kinda hoping to retire and pay for all 5 of my kids to go to college on this idea,
But I will tell you it is going to be ridgid and made with several different layers of carbon fiber, and kevlar cloth compacted and hardened.

| Weeeelll you don't have to show anything you don't want to, but you start selling them, then there's no point in keeping it a secret, since anyone would be able to buy and reverse engineer it anyway... I'd also assume you'd have a patent pending on it too, so it would purely be for the purpose of spreading the technological love, so to speak... :) But no pressure or anything... | |

| Yo! 23 and right now living in Gilmanton Ironworks, NH I'm pretty much a total weapon noob, and a klutz who can't help but want to try to make something sharp and pointy. I do, however, know how horrible a combination 'klutz' and 'weapons' make when said in the same sentence, and seriously thank that there are weapon-related forums, especially those dealing with making them, filled with helpful people, so that I could potentially try to make something and don't somehow blow up, skin, cut off, crush, impale or otherwise seriously injure any part of myself due to newbie ignorance/ ineptitude/ 'luck'. If that sounded too happy/disturbing/etc. I apologize, I've been spending the last half an hour trying to make it not sound a little better, counting how many paragraphs it was making, and deleting it. Finally I just decided to keep it short and then wave and say " Nice to meet everybody!" | |

| Hey thanks guys!
I didn't know if I was supposed to make a whole new thread just for this, so I figured on asking in my reply post-- since I've pretty much never made any weapons, should I go into metal-working stuff like cold forging right away to get better experience or should I go more for carving wood so I can shape them easier and see if the design would work (hold stresses properly and such)? I'd go for wood pretty quickly, since all it needs is scrap wood and a knife or ax, but I also know that wood ain't metal, and the stresses handled are different.
I mean, I saw the thread where a guy wanted to make a set of claws, and it was explained to make something like a windchime first. Was just making sure if it just applied to how to make his desired weapon or if it was to make weapons in general.
I guess what I'm saying is--what is the best way to just plain ol' get started into the craft for somebody like me?

| Hey Dark, Well, If you have never laid a power tool wielding hand on steel before, then I'd suggest you start with wood. The basics are the same. Make a pattern, cut out the pattern, do fine shaping, finishing, etc. Once you've got that one down, then you can move onto aluminum. Then the same thing with steel. Things like cold forging I generally recommend people save for last, since you should be doing a lot of reading up before tackling that, and the other intermediate steps will get you warmed up while you get yourself up to speed. But it's entirely up to you. If you want to dive straight into steel working, sure go ahead, but be very careful, go slow, and do your research first. Lots of it. The more the better. Did i mention go slow and be careful? Good. just checking. Carry on then.. :) And don't forget to take pics... | |

| I've apparently committed a bit of a forum faux pas and haven't introduced myself yet. I'm 30 years old and live in British Columbia, Canada. I have a good amount of practical knowledge in metal fabrication, chemistry, physics, computers and electronics. I am definitely a collector of blades. I'm quite enamored with the forum so far.
There used to be a saying that the internet was designed to put porn and bomb making plans into the hands of children. This forum seems to go polar opposite to the saying. It seems more like children are using it to document their ideas gone awry.
Its Bloody Marvelous.
Ive already contributed some hopefully useful posts and hope to contribute more in the future.

and we butcher pronounciation of North Versailles by saying Ver-Sail-Zzzz instead of Ver-Sigh, the visiting french speaking canadian hockey players hate us for that.

Okay so my name is Nick (Infection212), I'm 18 (Since October 30th), and I live in Massachusetts.
I've been making designs for these exact same things for years now, and I have dozens of designs tucked away in my art books (I'm an artist, so my blueprints are easy to follow). It's just finally good to find a place I can call home and to find friends I can relate with. I hope to start crafting some weapons of my own within the next few days, and I can't wait to share with all of you! Expect me to become a huge part in the Exotic Automatic forums :)

| Alrighty, seems it's my turn to give my info. 20 years of age, I live in Ontario Canada just south of the GTA. Personally I like snipy things and hidden stabby things. If Assassin's Creed had sniping moments it would be the best game ever, minus the repetitiveness.
If anyone knows where or what the laws are for blades and such are for Canada/Ontario I'd be appreciative if you'd enlighten me. As for right now I won't make anything more than cardboard and tape, maybe plastic... I know switchblades are illegal, and I know you need to be 18 to buy knives, but as for that I'm at a loss. There is a local store called house of knives and they have s***(since we're all mature enough to make blades on here are we allowed to swear uncensored?) loads of blades or all lengths and even swords so I'm at a loss. Apparently Canada has no real sense of consistency.
Oh, as a little edit. I'm not wanting to carry this thing around with me, that's stupid. I just want to know if for some reason a cop searches my house and finds a DAOTF assassins creed blade thingie am I going to get charged or even sent to jail.

1. you don't need to swear, we get the idea. but most of us are not particularly fussy.
2. Sorry, I live in USA, don't know Canadian Laws, but even if there seems to be no specific law about it, there may be a general catagory, like "offensive weapon" or there could be general intent law, "no usefull purpose"
so you should really look into it, further.

| I was on the governments website earlier today trying to find the answer before I started asking around. I don't know what the thing is with governments just being generally hard to find answers from but I did even a general search for "weapon" and it came up with stuff on do not threaten ppl etc. I'm very close to just going down to the local PD and asking them if they have a list. I asked at the aforementioned house of knives who sell all these knives and weapons and the best they gave me was "If you're being searched for some reason just make sure you mention it."
I've found this Wiki page, but really, I'm not sure if Wiki can be trusted to be 100% legally correct. I'm going to try some more searches on the government websites for Knife legislation, as that may be more specific. Who knows.

| Hey Davme_mcreg, welcome to the forums! From what I've read, it seems like the general consensus is that the legality of anything that is in the gray area between what is or isn't legal is at the discretion of a law enforcement officer. IE if it looks to the officer like a fighting knife, then it is illegal. Canadian knife laws: http://homepage.usask.ca/~sta575/cdn-firearms/Gov/c68 http://www.cutleryscience.com/reviews/canada.html Hope this is helpful... | |

| Thanks PB. I had read that second one and was using it as a light guide as it seemed to be paraphrased. As for the first one it will take some time to sift through haha Here seems to be the beginning of the sinking ship, "prohibited weapon" means (a) a knife that has a blade that opens automatically by gravity or centrifugal force or by hand pressure applied to a button, spring or other device in or attached to the handle of the knife So it looks like I'm stuck to my cardboard version, or flimsy plastic. | |
