Hail to all!
I'm writing from Italy and I have known this forum searching a way to construct an hidden blade like Assassin's Creed ones (yes, I know that this argument is corny Cool ).
Sorry in advance (is it the right term? blessed google translator) for my bad English (school -many years ago- level).
Lurking on this forum I view very interesting projects so I thank the creators of them for the share. I will glad to share with you some of my projects, that I hope to create with what I learn from you and with your feedback, critiques and tips.
I've got some questions:

  • When I registered my account there are some blank forms (xiphoid points, switchblade points, etc.) to fill with a number (0 is not allowed). What is it? I tried to find the argument in the hot-topic guide but I can't find an answer;
  • There is someone that knows the existence of a pc program that simulates a mechanic motion (and, optional, create a gif or video file)?
  • I use metric system but I see that everyone use American System. When I have some measures to post I could use I.S.U. or I must use U.S.C.U.?

Thank you for the attention and see you soon. Wink

Welcome to the forum dude!

Welcome

We understand it's hard to speak/type fluent English when it's not your first language, and yes, Google Translate is a God send. rolling on floor lau

Have a look around the forum, see if there are any designs you are interested in, or need advice/help with any projects.

Those points are basically to tell the users in what area of the forums you've made a great/unique design/project, the more points you have, probably the better you are in that area design/creating wise.

I do not know of any programs that do this, some other people might, but as far as I know, there's none. I do recommend CAD (Computer Aided Design) to give us designs. It helps us get a 3D feel of the design. For starting in CAD I'd recommend Google Sketchup, it's easy and free to use/download.

I also use metric system (UK area), I have posted a design in the past which had metric measurements (I use mm as they're more accurate to me than centimeters) on, and there was no trouble. Either way, there are free metric/imperial converters on the web which people can use if they need to.

Hope that answers your questions, and nice to have you on here. Philly nilly cheers Very Happy

Oh... so I fail putting "1" to all... sigh
About the program: I saw on this forum, just yesterday, an animated image (maybe a GIF) about a working car engine and I can't think that the creator of the image models it pixel by pixel... Do you think that with Google SketchUp I can create that type of images?
Actually I use Blender3D to do animations and scenes but if I try to make an animation it will take more time than create it in reality. Furthermore I got troubles with the PC and I can't use Blender and any vectorial design program installed in... Arrrggggg Sad

Ahahah! No wonder for me... "I've seen things you people wouldn't believe", as Rutger said in Blade Runner... one example: some months ago there was a public contest for being magistrate and one of the most errors in that contest is to write "veperata" (inexistent term) instead "vexata" (used in "legal language") because now students (every students) use "sms language" and in Italy the "X" is for "per" ("for" in english). Laughing Arrrggggg whip
I don't know what's the PC problem... maybe monitor, maybe monitor cable, maybe videocard or motherboard... I must do some tests... hoping it's not expensive... Sad

Welcome to the forum!

Italy huh? I've been there last summer, beautiful country! Where in Italy do you live?

And on the language issue, your English is actually pretty good! It's better then most Italians, at least, the ones I met when I was over there Razz

On the points, it's a system that is under construction, the exact guidelines are still being set for the project. Don't pay too much attention to it.

Then, the metric/imperial: I would vote for metric. It's called International Standard Units for a reason. I am very aware that there are a lot of Americans on this forum, but I think when doing science (and we are doing science here) the I.S.U. just works the best. I'd prefer working with millimeters over something like 3/8 of an inch. If you want to play safe, you can post both, but I think you're good if you only post in millimeters as well.

Then, something I'd like to add myself: If you go to the left on your screen, and then go the thing right below the 'Latest topics'-box, you can see a giant flashing box saying "New Member Quick Links". I would suggest taking an hour, and reading through them all, because they are, every single one of them, very useful. I didn't do so when I first got here, I did it only recently, and then I found out quite some things that would have been useful if I'd read them immediately. So yes, it takes a little time, but it's very useful and educational.

Then some other notes, which I have learned during my relatively brief stay on this forum:
- If you are going to comment on a thread, always read through ALL of the comments before posting your comment. Yes, this can be very time-consuming when there are 7 pages of comments, however, this rarely happens. It just creates a lot of annoyance when you have a topic, and something gets asked 15 times because people don't read that it has been asked, and has been answered as well before.
- Always use forum-supported smilies. There's plenty of choice, and sometimes translational software bugs up when using smiley's that aren't supported by the forum. Think of ":]" combinations, they sometimes mess with translations. And besides that, it's not necessary to be an internet hipster on here.
- If English is not your first language (and even if it isn't), use a browser with a built-in spelling-checker. It clears up little spelling errors, and it's just really handy in general. Most browsers nowadays have it built-in, I don't know about Internet Explorer(but that really shouldn't be used anyway) but Google Chrome and Firefox are sure to have it.

Other then that, contribute, enjoy, be honest, be nice, and you'll be sure to have a good time!

Irianthul.

Very Happy
Intended as a joke.

As for an engineering program, Sketchup is INSANELY difficult, especially for the results.
I use two: AutoDesk Inventor Professional 2012. And SolidWorks Professional 2012. I do not know if they come in Italian, but English versions can be found online as free as SketchUp.Greeting from Italy!!! Pirate

@Everyone Else: Google Translate has a hard time translating contractions. So do Not use terms like Don't or Can't or Shouldn't. (Psychology was used in my choice of contractions.)
