Hi, as everyone knows, when throwing knifes, you have the problem of the spinnig of the blade,.. here is the solution,.. the Rope Knife:

you take a single throwing blade, mount a short rope ( 1- 11/2 feet) on the bottom an swing it on this rope,.. works like a slingshot,..if you like the chinese style, you can mount red silk ribbons on the end, looks great, and the impact is much higher than by normal throwing techniks,..(sorry, my english is not soo good, as im from austria (schwarzenegger, not kangaroos Wink)))

Austria not Australia. Got it. So basically you are using the cord to provide resistance against the air which forces the pointy bit forward improving the odds that your knife will stick. Good idea.

you also have a miniature bladed flail Twisted Evil . the only problem is accuracy, but with practice you could get it down pretty easy.

good idea. it has been around a long time. I made one a long time ago and still play with it. all you need is:
- a diamond shaped piece of steel with a 3/8" hole drilled in one end.
- a 14-16' length of 1/4" cotton or white nylon rope. braided works best compared to twisted.
- yarn string or silk to make a tail.

shape the diamond of steel with one elongated point and drill the hole in the opposite end 1/8" of an inch from the edge in the enter of the rear point. pass your rope through the hole and braid and stitch it to itself to leash the blade. tie in the tail at the pint whee the rope and blade meet to make a counter balance so the blade flies in a strait line without tumbling.
now put a handle on the other end and have fun. these work great a a surprise sleeve knife and shocks your friends when you snap it into a tree or target. under hand tosses work best on this design.

Sounds like it would be kinda similar to a rope-dart.

In a way...except the rope dart has something like a 3 meter long rope and you don't throw the entire thing, your always holding onto part of the rope. This is a much shorter rope that you use to gain momentum in the throw as well as add a tail for stability.

Jackie Chan did a routine in the movie Shanghai Noon based on a Kata for the rope dart, only instead of using an actual bladed dart he used a horseshoe for the weighted projectile.

Picture a sharp bladed dart in place of the horseshoe, and you get a good idea of the potential lethality of this weapon.

You guys.....(shakes head)

O.k....here's my input on this.
Quote :
Hi, as everyone knows, when throwing knifes, you have the problem of the spinning of the blade,.. here is the solution,.. the Rope Knife:
Learn how to throw a knife the correct way. It's not that hard, just takes a little thought and a lot of practice. But once you have that skill it's like having a bit of magic. To throw any knife and be able to make it stick where you want it to...that's magic!! And it feels like magic when you do it well. It's a wonderful skill and great fun.

No...works on centrifugal force, totally different. Sorry, but it is.

Quote :

No again. You have much less control in this type of throw. I can throw a knife and if I calculate it right I can make it a very hard throw-less spin- and that fucker will sink deep. I used to practice 'combat' throws; very hard at close range (10ft or less). You can also do it from farther, but the spin calculation factors a little more.

Throwing a knife with a spin is not that hard. From a basic throw, 25-30ft, the knife will spin roughly 1 1/2 times. I did most of my throws holding by the blade and 1.5 spins makes it stick. Either one full spin or two if thrown from a handle grip. This is where the adjustments and mental calculations come in. IT'S NOT THAT HARD. You just need to control what you are doing and be aware of what you are doing.
Such as...if the blade hits handle first switch your grip, change your grip, change you power, or take a step forward or back. If it hits flat same thing, make slight adjustments until you find your 'sweet spot' somewhere between 25-30ft and keep the throws consistent. I taught my nephew how to throw in 30min and he was 12. After 30min he was sticking it 80% of the time, and I can only make it stick about 90%.

So if my little kid of a nephew can learn in 30min what's your excuse?

As far as 'throwing by the tassle'....yes, it's another way to throw and it can be fun and challenging. But if you do it you will see the limitaions of this type of throw. It's not accurate or powerful.

I use to make these little darts at work on the down time. We had big needles with a loop in a end. I'd tie about 5inches of string around the end and whip these things around. So I know, I did it for years.
You can get better, but I still think it's not very accurate.

BUT IT'S NOT A EXCUSE TO NOT LEARN THE RIGHT WAY.
Don't be lazy guys. Do the work, crunch the mental math, and get the skills.

Agreed with Sinza, I learned to throw knives when I was 14...took about 4-5 hours to nail it on the head and get it to go where you want with some nice penetration. Easy easy stuff, just practice. Also learned to throw and use Sai at 17, that took a bit more practice ninja 2 But it was fun.

this sounds alot like something i saw in an anime TV show called code geass. theres a character who has a knife attached to a rope hidden in his wrist, which he flings out to kill people. His mech also has a larger adaptation. I highly reccomend you guys watch this show its EPIC. but anyway i cant remember which episode its in, somewhere in R2 (season two).
anyway here's the link if you want to see it, or find that device.

actually, I've heard about a bo-shuriken throwing technique where it doesn't spin at all, it just flies straight through the air. I've tried and I can't do it, bit maybe I just did it wrong...

Yea sinza is right about using the rope to "throw" the knife, however I would like to see some Kevlar thread tied to a throwing knife for some nice knife twirling. I think the weight of the knife and the spinning could build up a good deal of force with a very quick to change attack range.

Not to mention vertical/diagonal spinning and all the tricks you could do with that and throwing the knife off a twirl by simply letting the line out when you built up enough force.

Also you could put some beads on the line which glint so that someones eyes would be drawn to the "bright shiny movement" and distract them from avoiding the knife. Also would probably be a good hand hold.

Just my thoughts on the matter. I am no expert on knife throwing though so someone here that is let me know if this idea would work or just sounds cool
