| So, this is where My entire freaking day went yesterday. Well, over 8 1/2 hours of it, anyway. {with Butterflies, because I'm awesome} Why did it take Me an entire day? Because, as My Dad has repeatedly told Me when I was growing up, *You Are ONLY As Good As Your Tools* { that's a FACT} and still I somehow managed to carve this warclub with a pocketknife. Yes. I carved it with a KNIFE. I am such a freaking Luddite... Not long ago, I carved a whole big bunch of Pendants & Charms, & decided I'd really like a full-sized version of the center one, as a real warclub would knock Zombies back much more effectively than a 2 1/2" {7cm} pendant could. I actually looked up from My little workspace by the fireplace & noticed a 2x4 peaking out from the woodstack. Ta-Da! It still has a few details & decorations I'd like to carve into it, and I may soak it in Tea a few days to darken it, but it's basically done otherwise {it needs more Butterflies}. I'll keep y'all posted, and I'll upload any other warclubs that I make on here as well.

| First....That's awesome my friend!! It's not so much the tools but what you do with them!
Second....Keep going! Looks good, now keep working on it and make it great.
Suggestion: *Soak in tea as you said, never done it myself, or get some good wood stain. *Get some sandpaper and make it look pro. *Maybe, if you like, wrap the handle. Leather, paracord, twisted wire...whatever makes a good grip ya like. * More carvings. Make it badass! *You can also burn designs into wood, with a wood burning kit or just heat up a nail. This will look darker than the stain and is a good way to bring out carvings.
And just because it's cool I'll show you this to encourage you. Here is a hand made Fijian axe club. Use like an axe to crack skull and break bones. Targets the head, arms and legs. Can make a clean break of the bones without much bleeding. This beautiful and intimidating piece of art is about 20 INCHES long, the wood used for this specific item is made of Monkey Pod wood. This Fijian war club was hand carved and hand polished with great attention to details.

| Thanks for the compliments & advice! And for adding the new category! Mine is about 20" as well. Many of My newest carvings are based on Maori & Egyptian cultures, but I'll be sure to research Fiji now; that axe-club is freakin' badass.. I can't explain My recent, driving burst of motivation, but I Hope I can keep this momentum going.
I used to carve little Tiki-like things out of chalk with My fingernails back in school, but there's no way I could do that to wood or stone, even though My nails are pretty damned sharp {and pretty damned pretty}. How you use the tools *is* Extremely important {as I've demonstrated}, but takes a backseat to having the proper tools to use. Trust Me, I would use My fingernails to carve *if* I could.
I'm currently drawing spiderwebs and things on paper to carve into it, but none of it is final yet. There's a lot of personal symbolism involved with the designs I have in Mind. There's a lot of symbolism in everything I make - Butterflies, the Purple & red colour-scheme of almost everything I Own, spiderwebs, Scarabs, the "Rune" I made over a decade ago & use for a signature, even the slight asymmetricality of the designs I usually do, but it'll take forever to explain all that and I won't bore you with it here. I'll probably carve the handle instead of wrapping it
Soaking things in Tea works rather well. The dolphin, bear, elephant, snake, penguin, and crappy little fork here are all made from the same stick, but some were soaked in Tea for different lengths of time. They're actually a wee bit darker than the light-flooded photos show. I REALLY like Tea.
Honestly, I can't help but feel kindasemisorta outshined a bit by that picture, so I'd better get back to work, and make the work worthwhile. I don't have a woodburner here, so that heated-nail idea will definitely help. Thanks again!

Nice work!! Always did love good carvings. You do wonderful work, keep at it. Oh, no, I really don't Know what I'm doing. I don't have a freaking clue about pretty much anything I do ever. Never did. I just don't let that stop Me. It's reckless but it works rather well, solely because My Luck is ridiculous. Oh, and Thanks again. I'm definitely going to keep at it. Maybe one day I'll actually figure it out someday. I mainly started carving this warclub to match the "Taiaha" I have planned. I've whole big bunches of Butterfly-themed weapon-Ideas, and even a set of armour sketched somewhere. I need to keep this momentum going! You can't see this in the photo way up there, but the handle of the club is cut to resemble the tongue of a Taiaha. Today, I've only rounded the edges of the blade, but nothing else because I'ven't picked a final design. An Idea I toyed with for a few minutes was to just saw-off the "blade" of the club entirely & make that into a Maori Patu... ... and then use the handle on a Roman gladius. {just checked - "Butterfly Gladius" yields one image in a google search, and the image features neither a Butterfly nor a gladius. Score one more for Me} If the club were to break somehow, that'll definitely happen, but only if it breaks. Right now, I'm rather satisfied with it as it is. It only needs detailed.

| Well, I still haven't chosen a design to cut & burn into that warclub up there, so I've started a Maori Patu to keep Myself busy until then. Is anyone interested in pictures of it as it progresses, or should I just wait until it's done & post a collage like before? That's a rather poor angle, but the handle is taking shape. I Guess I'll just keep editing this post as I go. Interesting side note, Maori use their clubs more like knives, in stabbing, thrusting motions, instead of swinging them like you might expect. It's rounded-off now {I should really clean up all those shavings}. I find sandpaper is barely necessary when I do well enough with the knife. I'm Self-Taught, so this is probably terrible advice, so don't try that. Besides, the more you use your tools, the duller they get, so sanding is just a better option, anyway. Common sense. I just don't have any sandpaper right now. As you can see in the above photo that I'm working details into it now. In this particular picture, there are only chevrons & a semi-spiked pommel, but I've carved Butterflies into it since the picture was taken {because I'm awesome}. In the photo, there is a dark black line near the top of the club - this is a hair-tie/rubber-band that I placed there to help Me draw a straight line around it, because I'm a Genius, and y'all should feel privileged I'm sharing My Discoveries with you. {in addition to My Brilliance, it should be apparent I'm also rather Narcissistic} Finished! Y'all would not believe how many freaking knots were in this wood! I plaited that poorly lain cord, cut every detail into it with a knife, and even carved the beads! There is some DEEP Personal Significance in that design, Heavy symbolism & Meaning that isn't nearly as cruel & sadistic as it may seem, the carvings tell a story, a partial Autobiography, if you will, but this post is plenty verbose, so I'll not bother explaining it just yet. Lastly, a closeup of the beads I carved from impractically thin, minty-fresh Birch slats I nearly threw out. Well, that's the end of that. I'll probably do something similar with the larger Warclub, but with more stuff, since it's bigger. I dare say it's *Teatime* for both Myself - and this Patu.

| Thanks, and thanks again! I can't wait to see what you come up with! If I may, I'd like to offer you a bit of advice - if you have tools... USE THEM. It's what they're there for. Look at when I posted that first picture, and the last time I edited it. I was working on that from before 3 in the afternoon until after 5 in the morning. Tools exist to help do things faster, to make things easier. I do have a handsaw, as you can see, but I try not to use it - I use the knife because, basically, *I have nothing else to do*Also, whenever I carve anything, it's about the *process* and not the product. This is what I'm Thinking for the larger one. Many warclubs are savage, unsophisticated, brutish, utterly artless, & entirely uninspired weapons, little more than fat sticks, completely lacking any elegance at all, so I might do something like this to counter that: "A Pretty Little Death Is Still Death" And here it is with spiderwebs, which makes it seem overdone, but I still can't seem to pull Myself away from it {Remember the "Deep Personal Significance" I mentioned? Yeah, that}. And before I go, I Guess I'll post the warclub pendants I carved. They're not fullsize, but they have the basic shape. There are Patu, Kotiate, a pair of oars, and a club that somehow turned into a giant feather-plume with a bird-head for a pommel. There are some other things that don't quite belong in this post, but this is how I uploaded them on DeviantArt, so, uh, there they are, I Guess. | |

| Thanks! You should carve a warclub too! All of you should! And then share them here! I've based several of My recent carvings on Maori culture lately because some of them seem like stuff I can actually do, and I tend to suck at everything. I've a long way to go to match some of the carvings I've seen. So, I did that at some point today. Still struggling with Myself over whether or not to spiderweb the hell out of it. Squarish spirals would have been much easier, but not as pretty. It's smooth & shiny, but hasn't been sanded. There isn't much I can do about that unsightly knot, except soak the whole thing in Tea & Hope it doesn't stand-out so much afterward. Stupid knots. This all just goes to show that you don't need "perfect" tools & materials to do something; that's just an excuse that will hinder you from ever doing anything. Play the hand you're dealt - Do what you can with what you have. I wanted a Butterfly-themed Warclub, now I have one. Actually, I've *two* - both whittled with a pocketknife, one shaving at a time from a junky 2x4 My Dad was going to burn. "Shut Up & Build Something" | |

What kind of details would you incorporate? You should sketch it during any free time at school {after your schoolwork is done, of course}. It's almost a weekend! Do you think you can have it finished before Monday?

| I've been so very board lateley... ha... ha... haha... ok, that was freakin' lame... I'm going to just type & post pictures as I go along today, and then post it once, instead of posting & then editing it constantly. Two hours in... ... over 4 1/2 hours into it now, all sides done, and knots were a motherbitch once again. I left the edges flat because I'm unsure as to how I'm going to make this. I started without any plan in Mind, which I would suggest nobody ever does ever. Never. I don't Know what kind of handle I'll put on it, if I'll round the edges off, angle them like a blade, leave the top flat, blade it like the sides, cut out the part above the top Butterfly's wings so that it has two points up there... I have a bunch of shark-teeth and several packs of razor-blades that I don't Know what to do with, so I may even put those in the edges like a Hawaiian Lei-O-Mano or a more modern Maquahuitl respectively, which is why I left the edges so broad. Here's a low-quality photo of a few details I'll probably carve into it. I started with the same Butterfly I made up to vaguely resemble something Maori, then decided I didn't want the same one stacked the whole way up, so I added a bit of variety. The only thing I had in Mind when I started this was that it would have Butterflies somewhere. The board I'm using looked little nicer than the last one at first glance, except it wasn't so nice once I discovered all the knots... they were kindasemisorta... hiding in there. It's about 21" currently, and I've left enough on the bottom to make a handle that could be used with two hands if I wanted, but it's short and light enough for just one. I'mma take a break for a while, and it could be a while longer before I pick it up again. Like, a long while. Until then, any feedback is appreciated. I've a little brother I'd like to visit; He'll be demanding My undivided attention until probably New Year, and he won't be cute & little forever; he'll be an obnoxious teen that I'll want to slap senseless before I Know it. I've been telling him We'll make a pvc bow when I finally get back, and he's really looking forward to it. I'm going to carve him a bunch of charms of things he likes as a Christmas present, and since I Think he likes *unwrapping* presents more than he likes *getting* presents, I'm going to put each charm on a ribbon wrapped around a box, and then put that box in another box, wrap it, tie another ribbon & charm around it, put that in a bigger box, and so on. I've got one charm made so far, and I'm not sure what else to make... He's 9 years old now, and all I really Know about him is that he likes Halo... man, that's sad... He's 9 years old, and I don't even Know him. No, I haven't been in prison. - Quote :
- Around 40" over all with a leather grip and I might knapp some points to put in the edge sorta like a sharks tooth club. Probably make the club out of poplar, because it's light-weight and we have a lot of it. Unless of course I can find some walnut. Can't wait
Hey, how's that working out so far? Did you start yet? Need any advice? I can try. And Sinza, since you're here, you should make one too. And that was a very useful tutorial. Without that, I'd've just tried hammering wire flat & then pounding it directly into the wood, because I had no clue how to do it. Yes, I've Thought about doing just that on several occasions, and by not doing so, My laziness & constant procrastination have probably saved countless Creations from being ruined entirely. Here's a "Samoan Double Axe Club..." ... and here's one I "Sinzafied" with details from a few things I saw on your website {Sin Skull, Magnatude handle, serrations & lightning-bolt charm from the AK47 switchblade, the notched blade tip from one of your 3D renderings}. I Hope you don't mind. It's just a suggestion I doodled in about a minute to get you thinking. I'm sure you'll come up with something way better when/if you decide to make one. Anyone else plan on making a warclub?

| I haven't started on the club or the taiaha... yet. I just got a bunch of rock I've been pounding on for about the last week working blades out of it before it gets too cold outside to knapp. After all, I am in Indiana and because it is 80 out one day, doesn't mean it can't blizzard the next lol. | It's all done with a knife. I do have a small saw, but I try not to use it. Maori WakaHuia - all done with a knife. *Just* a knife. Like My nails? I Think I'mma upgrade My tools soon. I've already proven what I can do with a knife, something I proved to Myself long ago, which is all that really matters, but that's kind of a pain in the... well, everywhere, actually. I don't do much for the holidays, usually {last year's Christmas dinner consisted of generic poptarts & coffee}{...and I nearly Forgot about Kwanzaa entirely...} but I Think I'll gift Myself some rasps & files & stuff soon. | |

| It's been a while since I've been on here, but I've been busy. Butterfly'd Polynesian Gladius in Progress Typing "Butterfly Gladius" into a search-engine should bring up something *relevant* now. Yay Me! This needs a metal blade, and the wooden blade will be carved into a Roman Pugio. I also need to inlay the non-spiraled parts. Aaaaannnnnddddd... I spent the better part of two days on this, and it'sn't finished yet. Remember how I mentioned that a Tiki would make a badass knife hilt? Well, the more I look at this, the more I want to just cut the top off & mount a blade on there, but right now, it's a hiking-staff that I may cut down to a cane, which is a blunt-weapon either way. How are everyone else's projects coming along? EDIT: Moved irrelevant woodcarvings here: https://sinza.forumotion.com/t3790-various-woodcarving-projects

| I finally finished that flat-looking warclub from December! If you scroll-up to it, you'll notice I changed the spirals. I'm surprised at how long that knife has lasted. The pommel isn't so much a Viking-kind-of-thing as it is an Egyptian-kind-of-thing. I jacked the design from Queen Hetepheres I's Bracelets & added spirals, which only looks like the lobed-pommels of Viking-swords by accident.Other than that, this warclub either resembles a cross-cultured Aztec Maquahuitl, or a short, fancy cricket-bat. I don't like it. Well, I *DO* like it, just not as much as My others. This one is too masculine, even though it has all those Butterflies. Is anybody else going to create any warclubs to post on here? I'll change the title of the thread if any of you decide to. | |

| XIPHOIDS | Also known as a Retractable Forearm Dagger, Xiphoid is a class of weapons with a blade that is retractable into a forearm worn wristband/bracer sheath. Doers and Talkers | There's two kinds of people in this world when you boil it all down.
You've got your 'talkers' and you've got your 'doers'.
Most people are just talkers, all they got is talk. But when all is said and done, it's the doers who change this world. And when they do that, they change us. And thats why we never forget them...
So which one are you? Do you just talk about it or do you stand up and do something about it? Because believe you me, all the rest of it is just bullshit. |
