First topic message reminder :
I'm going to start a new post for this new weapon design. PLEASE KEEP THIS POST ON TOPIC. DISCUSS THIS DESIGN ONLY PLEASE. We seem to have so many it just gets worse when they are mixed together.
Recieved my 'Assassin's Extending Knife' in the mail today. It was $135.00 + $10 to have it sharpened.
Description: The Assassin Extension Knife locks into place with a simple slide. A release button allows it to slide and retract. Attaches easily to your Assassin vambrace. • Overall: 19-1/8" • Wt: 1 lb/4 oz • Blade: 9" long, 5/8" wide, 3/16" thick
Buy it here: http://www.atlantacutlery.com/atlantacutlery/detail.aspx?ID=1946 or http://www.windlassstudios.com/p-76-assassin-extension-knife.aspx
Here it is out the box...smells like oil.
Closed
Extended
The blade and sleeve.
Close up of the blade. Rounded tip to be a safe prop....it's a easy fix on the belt-sander.
The sleeve and front.
Here's the button lock. Very simple, this is all you really need guys!!
Opened up. Here's what you guys have been waiting for!!!! And it's simple!
How the flex cable is attached to the blade.
How the sleeve is attached to slide plate.
But how does it all work?!?!?! So simple....
It's so basic it's almost embarrassing. If this is the first of this design I'd love to see really nice version made really strong. It's great for what it was made for, a costume prop or addition to a collection. That's why it has a rounded tip. It would be easy to make it a sharp point on the belt sander if you wanted. I can't see it taking too much abuse before it broke or bent. As it is it came without the lock spring, so I had to open it up to fix it with one of my springs. Not a real big deal, but I wasn't happy about it until it was fixed.
It's a little big...but looking at it I really think it could be done without the top half of the 'box'. If you re-positioned the lock this might be able to be made half thickness. That would make a big difference.
Can it be made automatic? Semi-automatic?
Maybe. I could see a few different ways of redesigning this, maybe with springs....maybe with a lazy-tong...or both. The cable and pully extension system is so simple, it's how our curtains used to work as a kid.
Is it worth the money?!?! That is up to you to decide. I know I'm happy I have one!!
O.k......did I cover it all??? Any questions??
Now....on to the redesigns and the project builds!!!!

i think its hilarious that assassins creed has been out for mabye, 2 years and people have already made several mass produced replicas of his [altiar] stuff. ubisoft knows how much profit they would make by producing REAL replicas instead of this other mimic products. WAIT! i am not shitting on all of the exsisting products, i am just saying that it would be cool to have a high quality knife replica. but ubisoft would probably face major insurance, or other issues. just saying.

@Deck Welcome to the forums. Yes, it would be cool. But it would also open them up to all kinds of liability. U suppose, however, that they could gimp it somehow, kind of like the guys that made the SAW blade replica did. Run a bolt through the whole thing. I dunno...

Hey guys, I'm new. Just registered like 5 minutes ago =]
A friend of mine and I have just recently become interested in making/purchasing (if we can find one) a good Assassin's Creed like hidden blade.
Alot of you have some great ideas on how to make one. I think the best idea (which I beleive has already been mentioned) would be to get one of the AC replicas and take it apart to learn how it works, and build a modified, stronger, streamlined working version of it.
Sinza, if you can manage to make a working, practical hidden blade I'd be more then happy to buy one off of you, if you'd be willing to make and sell one. I've got a few ideas too and I'll post with them when I get them all fleshed out.

Hey bebop900, welcome, im sure you will find a huge amount of info you require on this site, alot of the designs on this site to make an Assassins Creed are generally very detailed in difficult to make unless you have specialized tools and machinery.
However if you want to make just a simple wristblade your best to check out these links:
There is a huge amount of designs you can find here you just need to look.
However, when it comes to buying or selling these "toys" the site has nothing to do with any of that, the site is for people to look and share what other people are doing around the world. You are welcome to contact each other through emails and organise whateva you want as long as it is not through the site.
Welcome to the site, we all hope you have a lot to learn and to share.

Commentator: AND HERE HE COMES!!!!!! ENTER THE INFERNO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
*Inferno comes running into the arena, armed with the most epic xiphoid you have ever seen*
Inferno: ARE YOU READY FOR SOME ACTION!!!!!!!!!!!
Crowd: YEEEEEEEESSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!
*Inferno brings out his blades and stabs his opponent in the neck, before activating a xiphoid flamethrower and charring his opponent's dead body*
Crowd: OMG EPIC!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Now that that is done with, I want to share a video with you:

That's exactly why I wanted to know why it worked. Because he seems to have the automatic in/out thing done perfectly, and the blade comes out with enough force to pierce fruit (OMG).

Bill that may be true about the auto retract, but he still managed to make the blade quite stable and strong.
It looks like he could do some serious damage with that thing if he tried.

I think I may have an idea how he does it. Or atleast, and idea that would work.
In the diagram, the blue thing is the blade + holder, the green is a heavy block, and the black line is a spring.
I will explain. The block is locked at one end. When the blade is unlocked, the spring pulls it forward. The block is then unlocked, and uses gravity to push it to the other end, where it is locked again. When the blade is unlocked, the spring pulls it back in. The block now is unlocked and allowed to slide back to its original position.
This is still a gravity activated blade, but now uses gravity as a 'secondary' action rather than a primary.
What this means is that instead of having to tilt the weapon WHEN you want it to come in/out, you just have to tilt is BETWEEN WHEN YOU EXTEND/RETRACT IT.
Tilting it would 'arm' it, and then you just pull the trigger to fire. The only disadvantages are that it would be slightly heavy, and you wouldn't be able to extend it and retract it instantly.

Thats why I said IF it goes back in, im a bit skeptical myself as at the end he only showed it extending, some of it looks like its played in reverse, and he has said he will make a tutorial but not one that retracts, as it is too expensive

well.... bonus points for the zim music... but... unless he makes a tutorial of how the supossed retraction mechanism works then its not that great... the locking mechanism is a rather good idea though...

There is definately movie magic, at 1:34 he is missing a finger, at 1:44 it is a whole finger again.
The knife itself is cool, it activates well, it looks solid enough, but it is too much like erector set / drawer slide rails.
I see a lot of really high quality knives, so I'm waiting for an exquisite replica. It's beyond my skill, but I'm still waiting.

Is there a problem with that? It is certainly easier to make at home, and obviously it works pretty well. To make it look good, all you need to do is encase it in some kind of gauntlet/cover, like the 'real' assassin's creed blade is.

I could be wrong but i think to make it "appear" to retract at 0.31-03.36 is that he just plays the scene backwards, to make it retract, it just looked to me like the wind is blowing the grass in one direction when the blade extends, and is blowing in the opposite direction when he retracts it.

I was going to say that I'll believe the retraction when I see a video of it uncut/unedited. I was also going to point out that if the reverse of footage is the way he pulled that off that his full arm in never in the picture when the blade is retracted. You also never see it retracted as such any other time in the video.
My intuition tells me it's fake, but let's wait to see his "tutorial" to really pass judgment.
I really hate fake attention seekers.
I will say the entire video is rather funny and interesting to watch. I will commend him on that at least.
This just really makes me want to finish my design and build it already.

Hey, I'm New to this but I've been reading all of your guy's work, and its really intriguing, I'm interested in buying something similar to what you've all been showing in the pictures on this post, but I'd like to ask, can you make it sleeker, as to ACTUALLY concealing it in public. more of a self defense type of weapon, just a thought, if you could make it, not so bulky too would help, I'd offer LOTS of money to see someone make that kind of design.

Hey Zang, glad to have ya here!
The "assassin's Creed extension blade' ... It's simple to open and take apart. Fairly simple to put back together. Don't loose any parts. The link Bill posted above shows when I got mine and the first thing I did was take it apart. Lots of pictures and diagrams on how it works. It has a interesting pully-slide design. The design could be made better and a little more compact if done as a handmade project.
Glad you like the forum. I do my best to make it cool and the rest of you make it awesome! Tell your friends!

Ohhh amazing thank you :3. I wasn't sure if they used some cheap adhesive to keep it together or screws lol. I just bought one a few hours ago and did the over night delivery soo I hope I wont have to wait till monday to get it T.T. I probably will knowing my luck and by the time they process all of it T.T. But anyways thank you guys ;D. I've made 2 hidden blades so far but they are embarrassingly easy, one from curtain slides and the other is the classic dresser sliding one lolol. I want to work on the prop one and try and find ways to make it better or at least stand a hard impact. I may try and replace the blade with a similar one. All my checks are going to working on this stuff for now. I'm glad to see a community that is interested in this stuff x3.
Also I seen that "The Real Assassin's Creed Blade" video. I'd have to agree on that it most likely isn't a full real one. I noticed that a string is tied to a part that looks like a drill bit around the front where it stops the blade. then in another shot it shows another string around the back of the arm going down to the back of the blade. I think in the scenes he either reverses the video or uses the string to shoot it out fast or to pull it back in. I drawn all I could see of it as well and I plan to try and make one around that. I also noticed if you search his favs he has a lot of video editing stuff added. Anyways I'll shut up since I talk too much xD

Ok can someone please explain to me how would any mechanical system that does not involve a small electrical motor could possibly achieve the retraction motion. Cause the most logical way to make the blade pop out would be a spring with a very goof thickness so that it keeps the blade rigid and in place. But then what inner force in the system could pull it back? I've been trying to make up a mechanism that allows this but the more i look into it the more this dream becomes an illusion. See its just a question of physics. In a system such as this blade the energy stored by the spring is not in anyway conserved after release because a lot is lost in friction and heat. So according to this analysis if the blade was to retract to its original potential energy then that means there has to be additional work done by an external force of some sort. So correct me if i'm wrong but it just seems physically impossible. I'm just a newb so if anyone actually has some way the correct me please cause i don't want the dream to die.

I was just wondering if the people who got one had to wait that long or not. If so I'll have one made way before that freakin thing gets here.... You could always try to find another company and call or e-mail to see if they have it in stock ready for shipping. If so then cancel the other order. I had to wait a while for mine. And yes, you could make one yourself before it gets here...so get to work!!
p.s. It used to be when you ordered something in the mail that the standard waiting time was 60-90 days.

Just gotta wait till monday for a dam answer now And thank ya for the answer ;D. I think I'll just try and get the OTFs and play with them while I wait for that to come in the mail lol.

I beat Assassin's Creed II the other day.... The ending was.... AMAZING!!! HAHAHA
So....... anyway...... Maybe we can move this back to designs for a DA-OTF wrist blade
P.S. I bought my first "real" Italian Stiletto. She's a Beauty.

On another design i saw not related to this design it looked like it was somehow connects to ur tendons in ur arm because if u look real close in the game u see the guy hold his fingers a certain way and when its not being used his hands look normal.

Hmm..... sounds..... like that could be painful
But i think the biggest problem is coming up with a way to get the damn mechanism to open AND close using one hand. And then you have to think about how practical the design is so that, if you just happen to be wearing it in your local super market or something, you dont have a 13" knife come shooting out of your sleeve when you reach out to grab something.

instead of going into ur body connecting to ur tendons on the outside and add and extra safety feature to so when its not being used and its in the sleeve its somehow locked so u have to press an extra button to open the lock to open it all the way

Good plan. Safety switch! ITS SO OBVIOUS NOW LOL. The tendon idea is creative... but technically challenging. Especially when compared to a wrist movement kinda thing. I keep leaning towards something that "pulls" when you pull your wrist back, and then when you make a fist and relax your wrist, and mechanism would "flip-flop" and when you flex your wrist a second time, you still "pull" on your switch, but the blade retracts instead.
(if that made sense)

Okay, so, say I'm completely new to all these mechanics. How would I go about making a ring/cable activated hidden blade? One that would be about as sturdy as a typical pocket knife.
Also known as a Retractable Forearm Dagger, Xiphoid is a class of weapons with a blade that is retractable into a forearm worn wristband/bracer sheath. Designed for swift and quick surprise attacks. It is notable for being evolved from the Katar and the Pata, punching swords with the blade sitting inline with the users fist..
There's two kinds of people in this world when you boil it all down.
You've got your 'talkers' and you've got your 'doers'.
Most people are just talkers, all they got is talk. But when all is said and done, it's the doers who change this world. And when they do that, they change us. And thats why we never forget them...
So which one are you? Do you just talk about it or do you stand up and do something about it? Because believe you me, all the rest of it is just bullshit.
