Hey you guys, finally decided to try and build a bokken. Sorry if this is in the wrong section sinz, Feel free to move it wherever you feel appropriate. Anyway b4 i post my pictures here is a little background story. Every once and a while i get little ideas in my head about building somthing or doing something, these momentary lapses in reality actually led me to build the computer i'm typing on . So here i am at work and i decide I finally want to try crafting a wooden variant to the Japanese Katana (the Bokken). For the record I do practice any sort of martial art involving the use of these wooden beauties but hey its somthing else i can knock off my "to do list b4 i die" right? Back to the story, I finish work and drive out the home depot, There I purchase a sanding block a wood carver and a 2 foot piece of oak railing. I was very upset that i could not buy a 4 foot piece to work with but they didnt have any... go figure. So i decide on the spot to go for more of a Kodachi type, which is generally around the same length as a wakizashi ( 2 feet...ish). so here we are back in my bedroom i snapped a picture of the parts. I will be adding more pictures as soon as i get the guts to carve into it. So feel free to discuss any information you may have on constructing, using, maintaining them. Thanks for your time! lookin forward to your responses.
(edit) Ps.... Yes I do need to vacuum! (edit)

CORRECT ! POINTS TO THE MAN WITH THE BUSTER BLADE! lol
i havent tried making one myself as of yet but i use them pretty frequently its gonna be pretty difficult to get the right balance and stuff unless you dont intend using it in practice of kenjutsu, iaido etc. You know the cross sections n stuff dont ya?
good luck anyways man!

Excellent videos Sinz...
You know, I never actually tried to carve a bokken, per se. I bought a few ready made bokken that never lasted very long, so what I used to do was to find a good piece of 1" diameter hard wood doweling, cut it to length, wrap it from tip to pommel with gaffers tape, and cover all the seams with resin epoxy. Tsubas were simple plywood disks with a 1" hole center drilled... and epoxied in place. A far cry from your standard bokken, and not technically accurate, but cheap, easy and just as fun...
Also known as a Retractable Forearm Dagger, Xiphoid is a class of weapons with a blade that is retractable into a forearm worn wristband/bracer sheath. Designed for swift and quick surprise attacks. It is notable for being evolved from the Katar and the Pata, punching swords with the blade sitting inline with the users fist..
There's two kinds of people in this world when you boil it all down.
You've got your 'talkers' and you've got your 'doers'.
Most people are just talkers, all they got is talk. But when all is said and done, it's the doers who change this world. And when they do that, they change us. And thats why we never forget them...
So which one are you? Do you just talk about it or do you stand up and do something about it? Because believe you me, all the rest of it is just bullshit.
