introduction of myself

Well about me, I'm 20 years old and I live in North Carolina.

I've never actually built or designed any blade mechanisms but I've become interested in it through the Assassin's Creed game series. (as I see a lot of people on here are big fans of, but you've got to start off somewhere right???) I studied drafting, engineering, and architecture in high school, so I do have a pretty good idea of how to design things, and I've also designed stuff in my spare time like roll cages for off road racing or go carts,.... as well as other mechanical things, and even houses.

Back this past February, I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes and my blood sugar went to 1,850 by the time I went to the hospital. I wasn't showing any symptoms of diabetes other than being very thirsty, and the only other symptoms I had were dehydration and vomiting. Other than that there weren't any signs of diabetes,.... and the idiots at the urgent care said I had a virus. The next morning my parents had me taken to the ER by ambulance because I was in a coma, and the doctors said I shouldn't even be alive because of what I went through. The fact that I'm type 2 is strange because I wasn't overweight or obese, just normal sized,... and according to my doctors it's apparently just genetics.

Some of the designs I've seen on here while browsing the forums the past few days are quite impressive,.... and if anybody has some tips for a guy just starting off designing mechanisms for xyphoids or hidden blades and stuff of that nature, just point me in the right direction of where to buy materials, and an idea of costs if possible.

Welcome to the forum...Bummer about the diabetes...Hardware store, junk yards, roadsides, scrap piles, and as a last resort you can find stuff on the net or ebay...As for a budget, it depends on how handy you are with your hands and creative with your materials(i.e the handier or creative the lower the budget needs to be.)...Good luck and happy building
