I got a wild hair in my butt to build myself a nail bat. I don't know why, I'm not a violent person. I've always seen them in video games and stuff but never seen or held a real one.
Well now I have, well at least my own little version of it.
This thing is a bastard! I wouldn't want any part of being hit by one of these. The nails also add wieght to it, effectivly making it a very formidable mace.
I found the bat at Goodwill for like 6 bucks and bought 6 ten inch nails at Home Depot for 49 cents a piece. The hole thing cost me under ten bucks. making it one cheap deadly-ass weapon.
I know this isn't the traditional way where the nails are hammered into the bat in different angles, but I wanted something more effective and well... deadlier.
I cut the heads off the nails then cut and ground them into a sharp point, then I drilled holes into the bat at different angles. Then I used a strong pipe to hammer the nails in without blunting them.
I made a nice grip for it out of some cotton string. (a little nicer than duct tape)
So yeah, a nice little weapon for the Zombie apocalypse or just for display.
If you guys have your own nail bat, post it here or go build one then post it. Or just let me know what you think of my little bastard.

If I saw you anywhere in the world with that thing, I would pull a 180 and keep walking.

Agreed with Infection. Holy crap. That's scary looking.
I like your idea of using the pipe to help hammer in the nails, that thing's a beast. Although as a little thought, wouldn't it be deadlier with less nails, but spread out a bit more? It might keep the nails from interfering with one another on a strike. Not that you'd ever use it for its intended purpose. Just a thought, great work!

I HAD one. It wasn't a bat, but I ground a handle into some sort of wood beam type thing. About 2" square. Put nails in all four sides, alternating in a zig-zag pattern going about 12" down the bat. Buuttt...... My mom found it.... And threw a huge fit.... And made my dad disassemble it.... Later he came by after she insisted he talk to me about my voilent outburst (o_O). He said he was impressed with how I did the nails and that mine turned out much nicer than the one he made as a kid. Still have the handle, which is the important part, but the nails got bent up when he hammered them back out, and the holes are kind of stretched. :c

Yes, If I designed a weapon with the same technique of putting nails into a wooden club thingie. or changing the arrangment of the nails, I could build a way more efficient weapon. This thing is more of an aesthetic for me. I want to be able to show it to people who come over and have um laugh rather than think, "this guy's fucked up!"
My friends all came over tonight and we all got drunk and hung out. It was actually pretty crazy cause it was a giant culmination of different groups I hang out with. And of course ended with me and two of my closer friends having the same argument we have everytime, Who would win in a fight between Iron Man or Batman...
Anyway, they all got to see the bat and had mostly the same reaction... Shaking the head saying "Oh my god , that's ridiculous and terrafying" then smiling as they hold it in their hands Thinking of the terrible things one could do with such power.

Love that!
And it should be obvious....
He's the GodDamn BATMAN!!! He would own Stark! Dosen't matter what Iron Man's armor can do, he's Batman. He's whip out a device from his belt that would disable the armor, then being a better fighter he would beat Stark easy.

This project reminds me of how I once tried to make a spiked flail when I was around 13 years of age or so.
I used a combination of decorative chain, some awkwardly shaped piece of wood with holes pre-drilled in it for the flail head, target point arrowheads, and a wooden stick for the handle. I recall using a hot glue gun to secure the arrowheads into the head of the weapon, then wrapping it with aluminum foil. Didn't really have access to much since I was 13 and my parents, while fairly liberal, weren't too keen on me potentially putting an eye out or something from some random incident revolving around my fascination with weaponry.
That was an awkward weapon since it was so flimsy and yet so dangerous. I think it was good that I just lost the thing altogether a few months later; don't think I ever showed my parents the flail, I'm pretty sure their hearts would've skipped a beat or two.
Fun times.
Sorry for the derail. The way you put the nails into your bat is rather ingenious, and it looks like an extremely solid and lethal weapon. Let's knock on wood though and hope it never has to go battin' one thousand on some hapless person's head.

That is a deffo pikey Battle stick there Mickey mah Boy!
I had one but with big long brass screws that I Dremeled the heads off, I then drilled slightly smaller holes in the bat an screwed the screws in with pliers and grips.
When the Police had to personally return ALL My weapons to Me I let them keep a couple of things and this was one of them as Alfie was just starting to get into everything and I felt physically sick at the thought of it falling off the wardrobe on Him.
I had a screw in the front end of the bat for stabbing aswell as pummelling.
The reasons for Screws and not nails;
1.) Would cause more damage as there not smooth. 2.) Once there screwed in they aint coming out for shit!
Glad to see You back building Mickey can't wait top see more mad weapon shit Bruva!

I don't have a bat. I'm going to make one today. Ever played Fallout 3? The nail-board.
EDIT: So I just made a nailboard. FREAK these things are beastly menacing! I'm going to hide from the parents as long as I can. Something about it makes it seem worse than swords and knives.
Fun stuff

It's awesome to just hold one of these. Makes me want to get a real bat, or even make a mace! I had the end hidden in a box, walked in my brother's room and said "I better be quick before the parents notice" and whipped it out. He just started laughing at how ridiculous it is. It's much cooler in real life. As a side note, any idea where I can hide this kind of thing? And no, I don't have a closet

A friend was telling me about how one of his friends made a secret area in his wardrobe to hide the green he was selling away from his Mom, could probably do the same here.
Needless to say, she could smell it.

My wardrobe is bit small, and the club is kinda massive I'll stick it under the umm... desk bed thing for now. I wish I could go bludgeon something.

CCK that is amazing!
I miss the builders...
Don't you just love the power. Holding one of these things just feels silly and dangerous.
I laughed so hard when you said watermelon. Mostly because I was thinking the same thing. That, or a coconut, or maybe a snowman (if it snows enough tomorrow.)
These weapons I've realized would probably be miserable against a horde of undead because of the probability of it getting stuck. but agaisnt a single enemy or evan a person. I believe it to be one of the most terrifyingly devastating weapons ever.

Have you seen Jorg's zombie slingshot? It has a hammer and spike mounted on it with a skull ejector to get it out of the zombies' heads. It's pretty neat, I might make an apocalyptic axe version some day. And yes, I like the feel of the power in it
Also known as a Retractable Forearm Dagger, Xiphoid is a class of weapons with a blade that is retractable into a forearm worn wristband/bracer sheath. Designed for swift and quick surprise attacks. It is notable for being evolved from the Katar and the Pata, punching swords with the blade sitting inline with the users fist..
There's two kinds of people in this world when you boil it all down.
You've got your 'talkers' and you've got your 'doers'.
Most people are just talkers, all they got is talk. But when all is said and done, it's the doers who change this world. And when they do that, they change us. And thats why we never forget them...
So which one are you? Do you just talk about it or do you stand up and do something about it? Because believe you me, all the rest of it is just bullshit.
