Subject: Nunchaku March 24th 2011, 4:10 pm
Hi there People, I was looking through the forum and noticed that I couldn't find anything on one of my personal favorite weapons, the Nunchaku aka nunchuks. I still only have my training pair, but am hoping to buy a new wooden or even metal pair next week. I am too tired to post a picture of them at the moment but will do it in the near future, what I will do for all those people wanting to know more about these amazing weapons is post a link to a brilliant website for all your martial art needs. I sincerely apologize if there is already a topic on the forum about them that I haven't seen, but I just thought that these ancient yet fascinating weapons would make a brilliant addition to a brilliant forum. Please don't hesitate to ask me any questions about them such as their origins, films they were in, types of variants you can buy or even make.

Here's my old ones, I had my eye on some carved oak ones, but I was poor at the time. Luckily this AC:B Insignia will get me £600
Yeah, I think they're only softwood, but still they kill when you're hit full pelt with 'em. Yep, that's the start of my SECOND DAMN SCULPEY AC:B Insignia! 1 motnhs hard work, and I gotta start it again!

Nunchucks suck dude. At least they do for me, I made a crude pair out of some 1" dowels and a bit of chain a long time ago. Then I tried doing some fancy moves like swing it around and catching one under my arm. It ended up thwacking me in the back of my head really fuckin hard.
I always make a joke about these saying "if you want to kick the shit out of someone with a pair of nunchucks, just hand them a pair and stand back."
I could understand how a skilled person could do some serious damage, but I have neither the patience or money for medical bills to learn such an art.

That's a fair comment Abonude, I have done that plenty of times and I agree it does hurt but once you get used to a pair that you feel comfortable with then you can practice new techniques and before you know it your doing the real Bruce Lee shit.

I think the thing with Nunchaku, instead of being a 100% killing machine, they're more for distraction, let's face it, some dude walks up to you, flashing 'em about and all, you're going to be watching them making sure he isn't going to strike you, this leaves you defenseless, as you're concentrating on the Nunchaku, not your opponent, they could easily get a few kicks in there too.
EDIT: You may also want to remove the blue text from your signature mate.

Yeah that's a good point and they are very good at distracting the "enemy" but if you were able to get a clean connection with say the knee then you would have disabled them for a period of time, or if you hit them in the side of the head before they could react then they would probably be K.O on the floor.
Fair comment though Hidden-Blade

I was reading Paladin Express' "The Art of Silent Killing", and they demonstrate the nunchaku as being more of a tool to crush the trachea (placed nut-cracker style around the neck, parallel to the shoulders).
Any input?

Yes! I've always wanted a reason to post my chucks to you guys and now is the perfect time.
I would have just put pictures but for some reason the "host image" icon didn't work.
So enjoy the video.

Yeah that's a good shout infection, you can simply use them to strangle or even bash someones neck in, and that's why I think there so freakin awesome, because you can kill/injure people in so many different ways.
EDIT:
OK I was going to upload some photo's today but I can't find my damn camera, sorry about that people, I will try and find it before I order my new pair.

I agree with you on this one, I always say "If there's one thing you can learn from youtube video's, it's that nunchucks will always hurt you more then they will hurt your enemy."
And yes, if you're really skilled with it, then you can probably work with it, but I'd prefer a simpler weapon. For instance a sword. You hold one end, you shove the other end into people. In the end, simple weapons like that are most reliable.

That is true Irianthul but I think the reason I like them is because I always prefer a challenge and pushing myself to get better with anything I try.

You can make it yourself if you have the right tools and time. If you know a wood store just give them the size of the wood and they will cut it for you. Also the details can be made with some wood carving tools.
If you really want one you can buy a broom stick and make out of that, you just have to carve the details out and smooth the whole thing out.
I have made one myself and is great for practice and to hang it on the wall.

Nunchaku can be used as weapons if you know what your doing. Only an idiot would try Bruce Lee stuff in a fight. I am pretty sure there are not many other than Bruce Lee who can use them so well in that sort of way.
The best way to use them is with surprise, for this, the kind that can be disguised as one (halved handles) would be ideal. When they get close enough or if you find an opportunity where their defense (arms, other weapons) is away from their head, WHAP! That should do them unconscious or it could be possibly fatal.
Of course this is hypothetical if your States laws do not permit the use of nunchaku as a defense weapon.
The trick is to move fast though. Speed is crucial to the use of nunchaku.
Also known as a Retractable Forearm Dagger, Xiphoid is a class of weapons with a blade that is retractable into a forearm worn wristband/bracer sheath. Designed for swift and quick surprise attacks. It is notable for being evolved from the Katar and the Pata, punching swords with the blade sitting inline with the users fist..
There's two kinds of people in this world when you boil it all down.
You've got your 'talkers' and you've got your 'doers'.
Most people are just talkers, all they got is talk. But when all is said and done, it's the doers who change this world. And when they do that, they change us. And thats why we never forget them...
So which one are you? Do you just talk about it or do you stand up and do something about it? Because believe you me, all the rest of it is just bullshit.
