Hi all...

I found this site while googling (nice word *g*) around for some inspiration.
Some years ago I built Props from movies, games etc. - And now I have to realize, that I'm not getting younger... Wink

In the past I collected knives and blades of all kind... Automitc, gravity-released and so on.

I have two projects in progress, both much too early to show something.

The first one has nothing to do with the topics on this board (a "Replicator" - TV-Show: "Stargate - SG1")
The other is more interesting... The alway beloved Altair-Hidden-Blade Wink - But more as a Costume-Prop than a real weapon (In Germany a hidden blade, that is such long, means, that you'll go to jail if someone see's you with it).

But more about my ideas after I'm done with all those posts in the "Assassin's Creed - Blade"-Area Wink

It's 02.06am here... And I really need to sleep :)

Greets from Germany / Berlin!
Trennor

EDIT:
Please excuse my bad english... English-lessons are years ago. If you like to, feel free to correct me Very Happy

2nd EDIT:
I think "Blutgott" is pretty happy, that someone understands him a bit better, now Rolling Eyes

Hey Welcome Aboard Trennor!! Your English is pretty good! Glad to have you! In fact we are ALL happy, that weve got someone who will help us understands BG better :)
And out of curiosity, what is the project working on with the SG1 - replicator about? Are you building one? :) Very Happy PhyreBlade

Yes, Phyreblade... I will build a Replicator. :)
At the end it should look like this one (a CG-Model) -> https://2img.net/r/ihimizer/img71/9593/mirko391024x768me2.jpg
(btw: The pic is not from me.)

But first of all I have to find a way to build a single part of it... But this one over 200 times. So it have to be easy and cheap to produce but also be accurate enough to show the keen kerfs on it.
This is a CG-Model of this part: http://www.hyperspacevision.de/Materialien/Props/Stargate%20Replikator/replicatorlargeblock5jh.jpg
(Should be 1.57" x 0.79" x ???)

I'm thinkin about using Resin as material, but Aluminium would be much cooler Wink
A Prototype will be build using wood. MDF (medium density fiberboard) to be more correct.

Maybe I will sell some of my Replicators Wink - Interested, Phyreblade? Very Happy

Translation:

Blutgott mentions, that most of the german posts in here are translated by the readers by themselves.
My answer (in english of course):

Yes, I mentioned this already. The conversation overall is pretty nice here. Everybody helps everyone and the members of the board are really interested in what someone has to say and what he does. I wish on my board it would be more than here.

Something else regarding to the words in my post:
If someone is interested to help my team and me with the realization of a online-roleplaying-game feel free to visit: portal.verderbnis.com - If enough "Not-Germans" join the board, I will translate it Wink

Willkommen

Backen = cheek, backen = bake.

Hey Trennor, That is a pretty cool idea. Personally, I've always thought that the replicators were impractical; the shape of the individual blocks don't appear to easily lend themselves to securely creating the wide variety of shapes that the replicators assume.
But, if you figure it out, I would be very interested!!! thumb up Very Happy PhyreBlade

@Jerry:
Well... The babelfish only translates word per word. An as you already mentioned, in german are many words with more than one meaning. The cheek-bake-comparison is a good example. - But after all: In most cases babelfish do the job :)

Personally I'm using http://dict.leo.org (in the upper left corner, you can click on "english version").
There are also many english words with more than one meaning :) - Try to search at Leo for "Bedeutung". You will be surprised Wink

@Phyreblade:
At my first look to the Replicators it seemed, that the "blocks" don't fit the shapes of the machines, like you already mentioned. - But at closer a look (and some 3D-Design with Google-SketchUp) I discovered, that if I glue some parts together, the shape always matches the mastermodel from SG1.

In the TV-"Reality" I think the blocks are hold together by somekind of a magnetic field. That's also the reason, why the Replicators can move their legs and so on.
In my case glue will do the job for the prototype. OK... It'll not have moveables parts, but should look quite similar to the original.

The really hard work is to build the parts and count them part by part from stills of the original to get a accurate copy of the model.

@Trennor:

To all you non German guys, I just explained Trennor how to get these replicator-puzzle-pieces the cheapest way - by lasercutting em out of metall.

"To all you non German guys, I just explained Trennor how to get these replicator-puzzle-pieces the cheapest way - by lasercutting em out of metal"

I found water-jet cutting to be cheaper and easier.....depends on your neeeds. If just cutting flat material I'd suggest water-jet cutting, if you need 3D milled parts....little different. But the few lazer cutting places I went to for knife parts sent me to Water-jet cutters. They can cut a 12inch block of Titainium with a water-jet.

Hi all...

First of all:
I'm back from holidays Wink

@stonedjesus:
Heissen Dank...

@SINZA:
Well, laser- or watercut... It depends on the costs for the job at first. Laser should be litte better, because of the notches on the replictor-parts. The very first model will be made out of wood :) - Just to see, how the parts fit and what design the final-model will be.
