| ok, so when i started this project, i wanted an extendable baton, an impact wepon that could be quiickly deployed and packed small. What i ended up with was more like iron nunchucks, but they get the job done! a close up of the mechanism... hahaha if you can call it that.... folded up and in my pocket.. | |

| LOL Nice! I actually have a pair of nunchacku made with similar parts. Except i used 12" lenghts of pipe, drilled holes in the endcaps for eyebolts, added a chain, and used little screw type carabiners to join the eyebolts to the chains of each end. Loved to practice with that, it's quite the workout... | |

| i would imagine it would be a work out hahaha, like i said i hadn't originally wanted nunchakus and they only open/ close one way so they aren't really nunckakus or a baton... it's in between.... @ blutgott nunckauk.... are...

| maybe you could find a way to have a sleeve fit over the joint? but the bolts are in the way so that might not work | |

aye, than put a sleeve, or bar, inside the pipe(they are hollow right?) so when you flip it outwards it comes out the handle end and in-between the joints...very cool idea you had btw, i may have to make one for myself.

| Actually With BM's idea you could make the bolts work in your favor. If you put the sleeve on the outside, and dremel a little "L" channel at the top of the sleeve, you could make it so you slide the sleeve up onto the bolts, and then rotate it 45deg to lock it up there... | |

| that is a good idea PB! i had tried a sleeve, but yeah, bolts were in the way, if i did that L lock.... thinggy that would work really well! it'll be a few days before i have a chance to do that tho, i've got a busy work schedule this week | |

| how about two spring loaded sleeves on each baton handle with groves cut in for the bolts to slide into so when you flick it open both spring loaded sleeves slide into the middleand meet completely covering the middle joining piece? that might work | |

| maybe it would work if you hooked the bolts up inside of the handles them selves through the pipe into the sleeves to push the sleeves down together? | |

| I'd probably use a single spring loaded sleeve, I'd run a bolt through the sleeve close to one end, then I'd slot the end of the pipe it would be sliding over, in order to give it a channel to ride into. Then I'd attaching a spring to the inside of one of the end caps using an eye bolt, and connect that to the bolt I ran through the sleeve... Would kinda have a lot of bolts sticking out, and you'd run the risk of permanently deforming the spring when it's folded in half, but it would work... | |

| You have to learn about fasteners. first, I would look for a roll pin, or spring pin. http://www.engineersedge.com/roll_pin.htm it kind of looks like a short piece of split pipe. instead of using a bolt with a head. you put a roll pin in the hole, and it's a tight fit, but if you countersink the outside holes you can put a drift punch into the roll pin and flare out the ends, sort of like a homemade hollow rivet. or pound a nail into the roll pin (like when you look at the top of wooden handled hammer. there is a little metal wedge in the top.)
or
Flat head press rivets, Think like a big brass nail on one side that force fit presses into a hollow nail on the other side
You can buy them through knifemakers supply you just have to find one the right size. http://www.texasknife.com/vcom/product_info.php?cPath=52_36_621&products_id=957
One set works like this I------ ======I
It is possible to buy more than one set, and cut the head off the hollow pin and combine them to make a longer pin like this I------ === ------I
you may have to make another set, with smaller holes to match the press rivet diameters

Doers and Talkers | There's two kinds of people in this world when you boil it all down.
You've got your 'talkers' and you've got your 'doers'.
Most people are just talkers, all they got is talk. But when all is said and done, it's the doers who change this world. And when they do that, they change us. And thats why we never forget them...
So which one are you? Do you just talk about it or do you stand up and do something about it? Because believe you me, all the rest of it is just bullshit. |
