Here's a new knuckle duster....the SinSkull
Black Micarta skull knuckle duster made by Sinza on 5-8-2010. Skull knuckle duster design trademark, copy written, bla bla bla owned by Sinza.
Something I designed about 5 years ago but never got around to making until now. I've had Brass Knuckles since I was a teen. It always kinda buged me that they had a 'smiley face' look to them. I wanted something more ....sinister yet stylish. If I can swing the cash I would like to have a dozen or so waterjet cut maybe in about a month.
The re-draw.
Cutting it out.
Glueing it to a sheet of Black Micarta. You can see in the background a couple of cardboard and superglue prototype versions I made first to get a idea of how it felt.
Drilling some holes.
Cutting it out with a band-saw.
The rough cut out.
Sanding it on the belt sander.
Sanded to the lines.
More holes drilled. Not shown but I also drilled holes for the mouth area.
Getting things opened up with a Dremel tool and a few different carving bits and sanding drums.
Getting all the sharp edges smooth and rounded. Now it feel nice to the hand.
Here's how you slip it on.
Here's how it fits and butts up against your palm. This shields your fingers and keeps them from getting broken.
And here's how it looks polished.
Truth is I still need to do some more finish sanding on the inside of the cutouts and a little more polishing, but it's pretty much done.
I may do a little artistic carving to it. Maybe add some skull details like cracks and such.
Next, my plan is to have some water jet cut and have some for sale. Brass, Polished steel version or Black Micarta.
O.K. .....now I've re-designed the Brass Knuckles....Time for you guys to come up with some new designs!

It looks very cool. My only question is that the sides of the "eyes" look a little thin, so I'm wondering if it might bend or break after a couple good punches.

yeah...it did kinda turn out that way. Because all the edges are rounded it looks really thin, but there is a bit more material there than it looks. Micarta is pretty strong, but yes, the original plan was to have wider walls if you look. This is only the first prototype. The original drawing had thicker walls but I had to widen the holes a little to get my fingers in. It might take making one or two more to get a 'perfect' design.
I'll do a little bit of a re-design before I waterjet cut a batch. The walls will be a little thicker and I'll make the mouth look cooler.

Ok, good to know. Also I went to the other knuckles duster links and also noticed the "smiley face" look to them.

Love the skull knuckle duster very innovative creation. Just like to make a suggestive idea that has worked for me on handles and guards to strengthen weak points. Especially on prototypes or finished pieces. Get 2 pieces of sheet metal for each side of the skull. Then rivot (obviously drill small holes), tac/mig/heliarc weld, possibly duct tape (your preferrence) to the sides. After that sand and polish flush. Benifits: Gives alot more structure to the sides where it thins out, it won't spread your fingers out to wide like regular brass knuckles (which in my opinion are to bulky), last it might give you more visual accent if you decide to put in an artistic detailing on the skull. I like the fact that it looks very concealable.

Well here it is! ........ My 100th post !
First off, I'd like to pass on a HUGE pile of "Thanks" to our fearless leader Sinza for keeping the lights on here, and also for giving us blade maniacs a great place to play with sharp pointy things! (bravo)
Secondly, I'd like to thank all my loyal fans out there who have by some strange twist of fate managed to keep my "reputation points" in the plus numbers. (How did THAT happen? )
Now Down To Business..........
I was hoping to save this "Centennial" posting for something truly awesome, (not just my own personal rant about duct tape)....But I felt I just had to address this recent comment from one of our newer members.........

WTF???
OK,.. Let me get this straight.... This idea you have is supposed to be a solution to having "weak points" in your "prototype or finished pieces"......
And, by taking "2 pieces of sheet metal for each side" (why 2 for each side? why not just use 1 thicker one?).... and attaching them with "rivot"(rivet)"tac/mig/heliarc weld", or "duct tape" you can fix the design problem of having the stock too thin on the sides.......
You also claim that one of the "Benifits"(Benefits) would be that it might give you "more visual accent" to any "artistic detailing on the skull".
ARE YOU KIDDING ???
bj,.... I know you're new here,... so I'll try not to be too much an ass,.... but you've got it all wrong bro!!
The whole idea of making prototypes or mock-ups when designing is to help the builder work out all the "weak points", and also to give you something to physically hold in the hand to get a better idea of how the piece needs to be adjusted for fit and function,(as well as comfort).... It's far better to re-work a bad design, than to slap a sheet metal splint on it to keep it from breaking. If you discover a design problem during prototyping,... You Re-Design It!! You don't just patch it back together with sheet metal and tape!!
And the idea of using "duct tape" to attach the sheet metal is TOTALLY messed up !!......You mention that this solution works well "Especially for prototypes and finished pieces". How could you ever consider a finished piece, "finished" if it still has a wad of duct tape wrapped around it ??? I mean WTF?... Duct Tape weapons are OK I guess if you're 7 years old and playing in the yard with your friends,.. Or if you're stranded out in the wild with limited supplies and you have to improvise some way to build a weapon to survive,... But for crying out loud, don't ever show me something held together by duct tape, and claim it's a "finished piece". And there is no way that something stuck on with duct tape is ever going to help with "visual accent" or "artistic detailing",.. no matter how much you "sand and polish" it!

Yeah...don't try sanding Duct Tape....just makes a mess.
O.k....
To all...thanks for the feedback. as I said above, it is just the first prototype, something to hold and get a feel for what needs improving. Any thin or weak areas will be addressed and fixed in the redesign.
To Poindexter: I have seen that other skull duster, did not like the look or the fact that the way he held it was jaws forward, which seems backwards to me.
I will say that I did design this about 5 years ago and I didn't see this other one until about a week ago. I know where you saw it, weaponcollector has a killer collection and blog. I need to e-mail him and get him over here.
BJ tokar and Shadowhound: In addition to what I said above I will say this... The idea of making a 'sandwich' has already been thought of, but not for fixing weak points. IF I make more of these, which I think I will, I'd like to do some that are made of more than one material. I'd like to do some with a layer of bone on each side but I'm having trouble finding bone slabs that are wide enough. Brass with a layer of nice wood on each side would be nice...things like that. But again, it wouldn't be to fix a problem but done for artistic reasons. Any weak or ugly areas will be designed out of it before any more are made. And again, if you look at my design drawing I had thicker walls, I just had to make the holes bigger for my fingers. That's why we make prototypes.
Ya know....Brass isn't cheap. I've been looking into a slab to cut out about a dozen of these and DAMN brass is expensive! I see now why most brass knuckles are steel with a brass coating. (did ya know that?) Shit! A 12x12x1/2 piece is around $300, which is too much. I don't want each skull to end up being too much to make. Steel and Black Micarta is cheaper, but I will have to do at least one or two with a brass sandwich just to say I made 'Brass Knuckles'. I'm so busy working overtime latley I'm not sure when I can get back to my projects, but I do have a few cool things that are just waiting on the right payday.
100 post huh? Right on!!
And...you're welcome. I'm glad you all enjoy playing in my sandbox. Just don't poop in it.

To sinza and shadowhound my apologies if I presented my statements wrongly. I am not that great with computer lingo. My girlfriend (who is a computer junkie) informed me that I needed to put (lol) in somewhere for the duct tape part since I was joking. I'm also sorry for putting in finished pieces. In my work area I have 3 areas: Prototypes (for weapons that did not turn out right, can be made for some other project later, or you didn't like it and going to try something else), Finished Piece or Pieces(the project is finished but might need some tweaking or redesigning which (to me) goes back to prototype status, last is my Selling area (project is cleaned and polished. Does not need any more work done). I just wanted to clarify myself sorry if I offended anyone.

Awesome!! I'll admit, Shadowhound kinda guilted me into checking this out. I was busy having a pity party fer meself along with every other 16 year old on here that can't get a date. But now that I see it, THATS JUST PLAIN GENIOUS! Put my name on the list! I'll definitely be buying at least one! I really like the bone idea. Once you used, or at least handled it, dirt and crap from your hands would get in der craks in the bone and give it that aged and used look. Also, if you did happen to use it, you might even get some blood on it. That'd look even better! It looks much easier to conceal. Also much more comfortable to hold and use. I've noticed classic knuckles are a little uncomfortable and don't fit your hand very well. Never punched anyone with a pair but still. You mind if I attempt to make a pair for meself? Just a plastic or micarta rough draft to see how she feels?

O.k....I think I got most of my bills paid....fuck...
I should be able to do a waterjet cutting run soon. Just had way too many bill latley...and tickets. Concert tickets and traffic tickets.
But I have a stack of steel and micarta just waiting to be taken to be cut. Hopefully next month. Then I'll have some new AK's, Trifoils, SinStars, and SinSkulls. Fucking bills....Oh well....soon enough.
Whats better...Brass, Steel, Or Micarta.....depends. Brass is heavy, so it adds weight to the punch, but it's expencive. Steel is cheaper, solid, and heavy. Micarta is light and it's black. It's feels lighter to carry but dosen't add that weight to the punch like metal will.
Price??? Who knows?? Let me get a few waterjet cut and then we'll see. If it wasn't for getting speeding tickets I'd have all this stuff cut by now...so soon...maybe a month more or less.

I'd almost say that casting could be another cool way to get a similar design. Making the wax model would be pretty simple, and it's a lot easier to work wax rather than something with more resilience. (And a friend of mine showed me that glass blasting does a great job of getting rid of the plaster you cast in) Plus, you cast one right and you can make a mold for lots more.

It's some type of black fabric cured in epoxy at high pressures. Like carbon fiber. There are a couple places on the net that tell you how to make it.

I figured as much, Sinza, but seeing those words together sets it off.
Aaaanywho, aesthetics aside, I have never really liked brass knuckles as a weapon. Of course, the only ones I have ever actually gotten to play with have been "plastic" (probably this black micarta everyone's talking about.)
They just didn't seem to add that much to a punch that knuckle conditioning doesn't.
But... a pair that's made out of nice heavy metal...

and that's the tic. Micarta does not feel "plasticy" so you probably got some type of polymer "glock-ified" plastic if that is the case. But then again I don't have much info to go on

poindexter....micarta is only second in strenth to carbon fiber it is in no way plasticy or glockish...its impervious to heat ,cold any pertrolium products[lots of platics melt in contact with gasoline] it is one of the lightest strongest materials around. it also comes in a variety of colors .this stuff is super tough and thats why a lot of a lot of custom knife makers use it as handle material.it is a good product and it easy to find on the net!definitly a good material all around wheather for the knuckle duster or handle material..

Exotic Automatic 10-Rules These established rules are here to improve our forum to help reduce the amount of forum trash we receive. This makes it easier for YOU to find the information you are looking for.
Rule #0. Don't Fucking Lie!!! We can tell when you lie and it pisses us off! Simple as that. When you talk a load of shit you may get away with it for a bit but we are older and smarter and we can smell Bullshit fairly easy. I fucking hate liars. Talk a big story and we're gonna ask for pictures, we want proof. Take your lies, false stories, and bullshit dreams somewhere else. We will not be merciful.
1.Read the forum before asking your question. Read the 'Quick Links', 'Sticky', and 'Important' post first. If you are posting a question, has it already been answered? Try using the search feature to save everyone some time. The most common questions are answered in the QUICK LINK post found on the left.
2.Keep your posts understandable (easily readable basically) Spelling and grammar must be acceptable.Use capitalization correctly (no all caps or lack of caps).Use punctuation and contractions correctly. Start with a capital letter and end with a punctuation mark. I DO NOT WANT TO BE GRAMMAR POLICE. I understand that many of you are used to texting, this isn't the place for it. If you are going to write here please do it right. It's easy....start with a capital, end with a punctuation mark, use commas and apostrophes, use spell check if you can't spell. The point of writing something is to get your thoughts across. Bad grammar makes you look stupid, and none of us want that....and that brings us to our next point.
3. I have a VERY low tolerance for TEXT SPEAK.I'd rather not see it. lrn 2 spel rite uno tring 2 reed dis crap is fkd a wayst ofmy tym You text on your phone. On the forum you type, please do it correctly.
4.Banned Topics - DO NOT POST! Bombs, Blinding powders, explosives, chemicals, abuse, violence, poison, similar items, etc. Our weapons are art & toys, if it can not be played with it does not belong on this forum. Do not post about these topics, there are PLENTY of other websites that have that information, no need to copy it here. Not what we deal with.
5. Post pictures and not the link to the picture. We have a link that shows how to post pictures, so post them if you can. Not the link. This goes to videos too, post the video before the link if you can. Use the 'EMBED' code. Post pictures and not the link to the picture.
6. Don't be a dick. Kinda simple. Be courteous. Respect others. Argue with the post, not the poster. It's ok to be sarcastic or a bit of a smart-ass. That's all in fun to a degree. But don't be mean. If you feel the need to tell someone they did something 'wrong' then be a adult about it and don't be a jerk.
7. We DO NOT discuss shipping or how to ship illegal items in the mail. That will get everybody in a mess we don't want to think about. We do not discuss ways to get around the system such as using private carriers like UPS and such. Stay Clean. Don't talk about mailing illegal things, just ask someone their address and say "I want to send you something" DON'T EVER SAY "Hey, I want to send you some switchblades" Please, for you...for me, keep it off the forum. We don't want to go to jail for anything.
8. ILLEGAL?: Is what you are posting about illegal? Is what you are building illegal? Are you breaking the law? We do not encourage members to break laws. If you are building switchblades, whether for hand or strapped to your arm, understand the laws of your area. Many areas do not allow any kind of automatic blade. If you make a automatic wristblade for your own safety don't strap it on and leave your house, any cop will just shoot first.
9.Post quality, not quantity. Make your post worth it. If you're gonna tell us about something, if you can, don't just post a link. Post a BUNCH of pictures, lots of info, and the video too. Tell us about it. Give us as much info as you can, make it a great post full of pictures, links, lots of info, everything you can. Make it a post people will be talking about!
10. Do what your Admin say. Sinza, Phyreblade, Bill Sykes, Shadowhound...even Jerryk25. If they tell you something it was for a reason. Jerry knows what he's talking about, so if Jerry say it it's more than likely true. Me, Sinza, I'll tell you what to do, Phyreblade will say it in a nicer way, and Bill will say it in a funny way. Shadowhound will put you in your place with lots of color. Either way we are the ones who make this place so if you enjoy being here please follow our simple rules. We'll do our best to answer your questions and help you any way we can. Nice trade huh?
No I am not being a Brainy smurf...But telling me to go and join a book club because of grammar issues is kind of a dick move on your part.
So welcome to the forum and read the rules before an admin takes offense.

Cottenmouth71 Welcome to the forum, glad to have ya. Yes, we do have some rules. Very simple very basic. One of them is that we expect people to be adults. Adults don't communicate in text-speak, all lower case, all upper case, or no punctuation. Children do this. We are here to communicate ideas. If we have trouble reading what you wrote then you're not communicating right. We also have MANY members who do not speak English and use translators, when you use text-speak or other improper grammar it makes it near impossible for people to understand what is written. And most of all....I hate it. If I look at a post and it looks like it's written by a child I really have no interest in in. It's not the age, it's the attitude...it shows you just don't care. And if you don't care why should we? I try to stay out of things as much as I can, but yes, there are Admins in charge and there are a few rules. Rules you agreed to when you joined...you were supposed to read them before you posted. Really, I'm not trying to be a jerk, the rules are there to help EVERYBODY.
Bottom line is this: Exotic Automatic is a PRIVATE forum...public to join, private to stay. We have very few rules and they are simple easy rules. Members are expected to KNOW and FOLLOW the rules. If not you may be warned or you might just be banned. None of us has time to babysit, it's just easier to make the people who don't follow rules go away...we've done it before. AND there is a WARNING written in the rules, so you can't say you were not warned. Read the rules, learn it, live it, love it. Enjoy your time here, we have lots of cool stuff. This is the big Sandbox that we all come to play in...don't shit in my sandbox.

Also known as a Retractable Forearm Dagger, Xiphoid is a class of weapons with a blade that is retractable into a forearm worn wristband/bracer sheath. Designed for swift and quick surprise attacks. It is notable for being evolved from the Katar and the Pata, punching swords with the blade sitting inline with the users fist..
There's two kinds of people in this world when you boil it all down.
You've got your 'talkers' and you've got your 'doers'.
Most people are just talkers, all they got is talk. But when all is said and done, it's the doers who change this world. And when they do that, they change us. And thats why we never forget them...
So which one are you? Do you just talk about it or do you stand up and do something about it? Because believe you me, all the rest of it is just bullshit.
